Bere barley is six-row barley – the oldest strain of cultivated cereal in Britain. It is smaller and more concentrated than modern varietals and has a much lower spirit yield. The grain for this was not grown on Islay, but Orkney – summer 2010.
The resulting spirit was matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks.
