Whisky is global. It's not just Scotland who is producing award winning drams. As an industry, Scotch whisky depends on the barrels from Kentucky and Tennessee - and have done for years.
However it doesn't stop there. Sweden, India, Wales, Japan and even the UK are producing fine whisky now.
Globally, whisk(e)y is booming. Producers are struggling to keep up with demand as new markets in Latin America and the Far East open up and take large quantities of stock.
Because of this, world whiskies are growing. America has always been a large producer of bourbon for example (the Scotch whisky industry depends on it) – but recent decades has also seen other producers, such as India and Sweden, creating some exceptional spirit.
In more recent times England has a growing number of distilleries and no doubt many other countries will be making plans.
We’re looking at you Taiwan and Tasmania..!
