LOCHINDAAL 16 YO ISLAY SINGLE MALT WHISKY – The Old Smithy Release.

We own and have bottled quite a few amazing casks under The Old Smithy label and this is the best cask we have ever owned (well actually it was my children’s cask but we have bought it from them..!)
Labelled as ‘Lochindaal’ (which was then the heavy peated distillate of Bruichladdich at 50ppm) and filled into the supreme Château Climens casks (my favourite Sauternes when not drinking Château Y’queum).
It was distilled on 4th December 2007 and I have had the pleasure of tasting this whisky every year on its journey to bottling.
This is a peated whisky with Sauternes cask (or, dessert wine) maturation which is a wonderful marriage and as good as a peat and Sherry cask…dare I say this is better!
The youthful spirited nature of the whisky has now been replaced with a beautifully mature, but still properly characterful Islay whisky just wrapped in this glorious, soft honeyed coating.
We could have waited till it was 18 years old, charged more, but after following it for so long the time was right!
